Show us your cellar!

Wine room with a collection of over 1,000 bottles

How do you organize your cellar?

The wine cellar is organized by vertical columns, each split into 5 regions. I have some multi-bottle bins for single varietals, often spanning many vintages or my own production. Reds and whites have their own sections, reds then split by geography, then producer. Most of my wine is California and Washington. I have some Australia and Old world which I try to keep together.

Why do you love wine?

Before I knew anything, I had learned that if I brought a L'Ecole 41 Merlot to an event, I was okay. My wife and I started dating with wine trips to Eastern Washington and we were hooked. When COVID hit, I realized that instead of staying home and just drinking wine, this was the opportunity to put my undergrad chemistry degree to use and learn more about wine, so I started making wine and finished the (mainly) on-line Oenology certificate programs through both UC Davis and WSU. I love that wine is art and science together!

How did you start collecting wine?

Like many people, going on tasting trips (mainly WA and CA), buying wine that I loved and could not responsibly drink enough to avoid collecting!

What is your favorite region/variety?

Right now it is Sonoma Primitive/Zinfandel, but always love fruit forward Washington Reds, especially from Red Mountain. Still love learning about the thousands of grapes and styles outside the mainstream

What is your favorite CellarTracker feature?

Ability to search by multiple features, whether producer, vintage, varietal or drink now!
