Show us your cellar!

Wine room with a collection of over 1,000 bottles

How do you organize your cellar?

Unusually I organize by region and then by vintage. Eg Bordeaux, 1982, 1985, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1995, 1996 etc. so when I go to 1990 I see my 90s as I often look for the vibe of a wine by age Eg do we feel like elegance (age) or punch and fun (youth). I do this for all the 10 key regions I follow for my wines across Italy Spain France and USA.

Why do you love wine?

As a teenager I “borrowed” anc drank a bottle of Rippon vineyard Pinot noir with my friend Mike, that my father bought a case of - it was his first big purchase - it had been box wine during my childhood. It was one of the most thrilling experiences of my life… mushroom, earth, chocolate. We laugh about it now but he wasn’t happy at the time.

I started very modestly when I was at college. I’ll go to the different winetasting because there are a cheap way of experiencing different flavors.. My friends laughed as I had about 20 bottles of wine “how are you going to drink all these ??”. Life was simpler back then.

What is your favorite region/variety?

Bordeaux is 2/3 of my collection, good years only, back to 1982. I love many regions but another favorite is the Piedmont as I’ve recently fallen in love with Nebbiolo.

What is your favorite CellarTracker feature?

Being able to quickly skim all the CT ratings of a wine by vintage to see which ones to hunt down.
